An Artificial Sun would use magnetic fields to create stable nuclear fusion. The device would have a number of possible uses - from clean energy, to placing sunlight near a planet whose sun was too distant to provide proper illumination, to providing light and heat in areas where a traditional sun would not exist. An example of use would be inside a space habitat like an O’Neill Cylinder.
